Ash Tree Borer Damage in Arizona
Leopard Moths and Cottonwood Borers can cause serious damage to Arizona ash trees by tunneling deep inside the trunk and branches. These insects often leave behind sawdust, weaken the tree's structure, and create openings for disease and further decline.
In this video, Warner examines an ash tree in Mesa, Arizona, showing the signs of borer activity and discussing the long-term treatment needed to protect the tree.
Watch the video below to learn how borer infestations affect ash trees and what can be done to control them.
Long-Term Control of Ash Tree Borers
Because borer larvae can remain inside an ash tree for several years, treatment is often a long-term process. Systemic insecticides may help control the infestation when larvae emerge and feed on treated foliage before attempting to bore back into the tree.
Common signs of borer activity include sawdust around the trunk, holes in the bark, branch dieback, and declining tree health. Early diagnosis and yearly treatment can improve the chances of saving valuable ash trees.
